Marco Navarra is  professor in urban and architectural design at the university of Catania, he founded NOWA Office and he is also the autor of  Robert Adam, Ruins of the Palace of the Emperor Diocletian at Spalatro in Dalmatia, 1754. (2002), Repairingcities. La riparazione come strategia di sopravvivenza. (2008), Lo-fi: Architecture as curatorial practice,with mario Lupano and Luca Emanueli (2010), Abiura dal paesaggio. Architettura come trasposizione (2012), DISPLAY. Didattica per un’architettura di relazione (2012), INWALKABOUTCITY 2.0. He has curated many exhibitions and projects, architectural installations and research projects at the Venice Biennale, at the Milan triennale, at the Mies van der Rohe Foundation, at CCCB in Barcelona and CCA in Montreal.He was finalist of the Mies van der Rohe Prize (2003), the EUROPEAN PRIZE FOR URBAN PUBLIC SPACE  (2006)in Barcelona and the BBS Swiss Architectural Award (2008).He won the Medaglia d’oro, the first prize for Italian architecture at the Milan triennale (2003) and the Gubbio prize.Nowa’s projects are published on Italian and international architectural magazines (Lotus, Domus, Abitare, Interni, A+U, AD, C3, Paiseia, A10). For the publishing house Lettera Ventidue he directs the series Costellazioni. Scritture dell’Architettura, Libri Primi and Diagonali with Alessandro Rocca.

Born in Caltagirone in 1963, he is associated professor in a urban and architectural design at the Faculty of Architecture of Siracusa, (university of Catania.)

In 2000 he founded the studio NOWA that develops the notion of extreme Architecture.

 

In 1996 he gained a PhD research program in urban and architectural design (University of Florence).

In 1997 he wins the third prize for the Schindler Competition 1997 – Risalire la città: Napoli e i suoi musei: dall’archeologico a Capodimonte.

In 2000 he is invited to present his works into a personal exhibition “Marco Navarra: architectures” at the Civic Gallery of Contemporary arts in Caltagirone.

In 2001 he publishes “Robert Adam, Ruins  of the Palace of the Emperor Diocletian at Spalatro in Dalmatia, 1754”, with a translation of the book with 61 plates and an essay.

In 2002 he publishes the book “IN WALKABOUT CITY. Il paesaggio riscritto. Un parco lineare tra Caltagirone e Piazza Armerina.”( The re-written landscape. A strip park between Caltagirone and Piazza Armerina)

He is author, among other things, of “Repairingcities. The repair as a strategy for survival.” (2008), “Lo-fi: Architecture as curatorial practice”, with Mario Lupano and Luca Emanueli (2010), “Abiura dal paesaggio. Architettura come trasposizione” (2012), “INWALKABOUT 2.0. Landformbuilding, time, architecture” (2012), “DISPLAY. Didatics for a Relational Architecture” (2012), Shadow line.Adolfo Natalini between the Superstudio and the Architecture (2013), “Atmoshere. For teaching and learning Architecture” (2014),Architetture Archaeologies” (2016).

The Strip Park has been short listed amongst the final forty projects for the European architectural prize  Mies van der Rohe 2003, Barcelona (Spain). In May 2003 the project is presented into the Mies Pavilion in  Barcelona. In spring 2003 he wins the Gold Medal (Triennale di Milano) for a First Work with A STRIP PARK between Caltagirone and Piazza Armerina.

In 2004 he is invited to present his works “Ta_rokò” in the IX. Venice Biennale.

In May 2006 is finalist with giardino-arena for the Special Mention-Public Areas and infrastructures in Gold Medal for Italian Architecture triennale Milano.

In June 2006  is finalist with giardino-arena EUROPEAN PRIZE FOR URBAN PUBLIC SPACE a Barcellona. In the same year he won ANCE Gubbio Award 2006. In the 2008 he was a finalist at BSI Swiss Architectural Award (2008).

In 2006 he partecipated in the X Venice Biennale with the research work Repairingcities.

In 2008, 2010, 2014 and 2016 was invited to the Italian Pavilion of the Venice Biennale.

He has taught in various italian and foreign universities (IUAV of Venice, Milan Polytechnic, Escola Superior technique of Arquitectura de Barcelona ETSAB). Has exposed projects, installations, and research at the Venice Biennale and at the Triennale di Milano, the Mies van der Rohe Foundation, the CCCB to Barcelona and the CCA in Montreal. The projects of the study NOWA appeared in many italian and foreign magazines.

Nowa’s projects are published on Italian and international architectural magazines (Lotus, Domus, Abitare, Interni, A+U, AD, C3, Paiseia, A10).

For the publishing house Lettera Ventidue Marco Navarra directs the series Costellazioni. Scritture dell’Architettura and Libri Primi.
